Ford shelves plans for Honda City rival

According to media reports, Ford has shelved plans for developing a C-segment sedan, codenamed B500, which was supposed to rival the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz, and Volkswagen Vento. This step has been taken to focus on increasing volumes of their existing models.

The Ford B500 was meant to be the first product coming out of Ford India's R&D unit. The B500 was expected to be launched by 2018, and would have filled the void in the company's portfolio that was created when the Fiesta sedan was discontinued.

With the development plans of this sedan shelved, Ford is likely to redirect its resources to focus on pushing sales of its existing models. In order to achieve this, the US-based automaker plans to strengthen its marketing and after-sales service operations to attract customers.
