Ford Mustang GT launched in India at Rs. 65 lakh

Ford has finally launched the Mustang GT in India, at Rs. 65 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It will be imported as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) from the company’s manufacturing plant in Michigan, USA.

The Mustang in India gets a 5.0-litre V8 engine that churns out 395 BHP and 515 Nm of torque. The top speed has been electronically limited to 250 km/h. Ford has detuned the engine to suit Indian requirements, and run on the 91 octane fuel available in the country. In the international market, the same engine develops 435 BHP and 542 Nm of torque. Moreover, the Indian-spec Mustang GT gets only a 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. There is no manual gearbox on offer. Power from the engine goes to the rear axle.

Additionally, the Mustang GT offers four driving modes - Normal, Sport+, Track and Snow/Wet. The latest-gen Mustang also gets a new independent rear suspension, revised intake manifold, new cylinder heads, and a new valvetrain.

On the outside, the Mustang gets a combination of retro and aggressive styling cues. The front houses a bulging and long bonnet, while the rear gets a stubby trunk. The ORVMs house projector puddle lamps that throw Mustang's iconic pony badge on the road. The car gets a 383-litre boot space and is shod with 19-inch wheels.

Features on offer include Ford's Sync2 system with an 8-inch touchscreen unit, reverse camera, keyless entry, push button start, and Ford's MyKey. On the safety front, the Mustang GT gets 8 airbags, EBD, ABS, traction control, and electronic stability control. Ford has also equipped the rear-wheel drive muscle car with a line lock feature, which locks and holds the front two wheels to allow easy burnouts.

The Mustang GT will be available in six colours - Absolute Black, Ingot Silver, Oxford White, Triple Yellow Tricoat, Magnetic and the signature Race Red. Ford has opened bookings of the car in Delhi and Mumbai, while other cities will be added to the list in 2017.
