Fiat Avventura: Multiple issues crop up after spending 5 weeks at ASC

The car sat in the dealership for over 5 weeks for want of spare parts.

BHPian smokin'tyres recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I own a 2015 Fiat Avventura 1.4P Dynamic, for which I am the 3rd owner. I have just brought back my car from the  Jeep / Fiat dealership in Bangalore. The car sat in the dealership for over 5 weeks for want of spare parts. Below is the work that was done:

  • Replacement of Front Bumper, Upper and lower Grill, chin guard, fog light surround (both sides), fog light (both sides).
  • Painting of front bumper.

(1 & 2 were repairs after a minor accident I had in November 2021. Kept putting it off since I was short on cash till now.)

  • Full fluid service at 60,000km
  • Replacement of horns (stopped working)
  • Obtaining radio unlock code (I had to get the battery recharged after it had drained completely. When I re-connected the battery, the radio had locked itself. I do not have the unlock code, the second hand dealer didn't give me any owner's manual and I didn't know to ask for the radio code in particular.)

Most of the delays were in sourcing the bumper parts.

While the car was sitting in the dealership, they informed me that the battery was weak. So much so that when I went to first receive the car a couple of days ago, it wouldn't start on its own and had to be jumpstarted off another car. Once the car started, I found that the boot release button and the power windows weren't working any more.

The service advisor asked a technician to check it, and they said that replacing the battery might fix the issues. So I took delivery of the vehicle and replaced the battery at an Amaron dealership right away. Unfortunately that did not fix the issue.

I went back to the dealership today and spent most of the day there. Technicians checked out the boot release mechanism and said there was a short circuit in the control module. They said they would need to check whether the release mechanism works using a donor module from another Avventura before being sure that this was the only issue.

They also said that the issue with the power windows is that that control unit is also faulty. None of the window switches light up. When I toggle them I cannot hear any motor or relay switching.

Both the boot release and the power windows were working fine when I left the car for body repairs and service.

If you have read this far, thank you. Here are my questions:

  • How likely is it that both modules could have malfunctioned due to a weak battery?
  • Since both these faults happened while the car was sitting in the dealership, can I hold them liable and demand that they fix it at their expense?
  • If (b) is not possible, is there a good FNG in the North Bangalore area who will be able to do these repairs?
