Fiat 124 Spider revealed! Based on the Mazda MX-5

The legendary Fiat 124 nameplate has been revived after nearly 50 years in the form of the new 124 Spider. The Miata based soft top convertible is powered by Fiat's 1.4L, four-cylinder, turbocharged MultiAir engine and in a first for this engine, the grunt is transmitted to the rear wheels.

Power output stands at around 140 BHP with 240 Nm of torque and the car gets a 6-speed manual gearbox. The US markets gets the same engine in a more powerful tune i.e. 160 BHP and 250 Nm of torque with a 6-speed automatic also offered.

The 124 Spider's suspension uses a double-wishbone layout up front and a multi-link at the rear. Comfort and convenience features include a 7- inch touchscreen display with digital radio, multimedia control, Bluetooth connectivity, voice commands, heated seats and keyless entry and go. A Bose premium sound system with nine speakers, including dual headrest speakers, is also available.

In terms of aesthetics, the 124 Spider has evidently been crafted with classic Italian flair and has been designed at Centro Stile in Turin, Italy. Traits include round headlamps with day time running LEDs, rectangular LED tail lights, a hexagonal front grille, door mounted wing mirrors, power domes on the low slung bonnet, dual exhaust tips and side mounted rear fog lamps.

The Fiat 124 Spider is available in two trim levels: 124 Spider and Lusso. Each model is available in 8 exterior paint colors, including Rosso Passione (Solid Red), Bianco Gelato (Solid White), Nero Vesuvio (Black Metallic), Grigio Argento (Gray Metallic), Grigio Moda (Dark Gray Metallic) Bronzo Magnetico (Bronze Metallic), Azzurro Italia (Azure Metallic) and tri-coat Bianco Ghiaccio.

124 units will be offered as anniversary editions. Each will be individually numbered with a commemorative badge and will be available with the Rosso Passione exterior paint with black leather seats.
