Ferrari's driver cockpit could soon slide to centre

As with any patent, it remains to be seen whether or not Ferrari actually goes ahead with the application or not.

According to reports, Ferrari could be working on a very interesting innovation for its car's interiors. The Italian carmaker has filed a patent in the USA, wherein the driver's cockpit can be slid to a central position from either of its sides.

Reports state that, as per Ferrari's patent application, the seat, along with the entire cockpit, which includes the steering wheel, pedal box and instrument cluster, could slide together into two pre-determined positions - either move between LHD to centre or between the RHD to centre.

While the exact details of how this is achieved are yet to be explained, reports suggest that it will involve Ferrari having to make all its car's controls "by-wire", without any physical connections. There would also have to be presets included to configure the rearview mirrors and the passenger seat position, depending on the position of the driver's seat.

Having said that, as with any patent, it remains to be seen whether or not Ferrari actually goes ahead with the application or not.
