A Mercedes W124 Ambulance which once belonged to the President of India has been spotted rusting in Kerala. It is said that the car is now undergoing a restoration.
The 1988 W124 Krankenwagen (Ambulance) is said to be the only one in the country and belonged to the Rashtrapati Bhavan for nearly two decades. It was used as a medical car in the presidential convoy in the 1990s. The car was also seen in PV Narasimha Rao's convoy during the 1995 Republic Day parade.
The W124 is one of the last over-engineered, mechanically-simple and electronically-minimal cars from the Mercedes stable and was launched in 1985. In India, the car was manufactured by the Mercedes-Tata JV and is popular among enthusiasts.
