Delhi: Tax on hybrids reduced; Ciaz, Ertiga diesel prices cut

The New Delhi government has reduced the VAT on hybrid vehicles. While the previous rate was 12.5%, the new rate is 5%.

Maruti Suzuki has passed on the benefit of this reduction to its customers by slashing the prices of the diesel versions of the Ciaz and Ertiga. While the price of the Ciaz has gone down by up to Rs. 69,000, the Ertiga is now cheaper by up to Rs. 62,000.

The Ciaz and Ertiga are powered by a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, diesel engine that develops 89 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque @ 1,750 rpm. The engine is mated to 5-speed manual gearbox.

The engine comes with SHVS technology, which features an idling start / stop system, an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) and a more powerful battery. The idling start / stop feature switches off the engine when the car is idling and switches it on when the clutch is depressed. The brake energy regeneration function charges the battery during braking. The power is stored in the battery and the system combines it with the power from the engine to help the vehicle during acceleration. The cars also come with a gearshift indicator.

The Ciaz and Ertiga diesel have also been exempt from the odd-even scheme since they are classified as hybrid vehicles.
