Delhi: Maruti Ciaz, Ertiga SHVS exempt from odd-even rule

The Government of Delhi implemented a new rule from January 2016 under which, private vehicles with odd and even registration numbers are allowed to ply on the city's roads on alternate days. Vehicles that run on CNG, electric vehicles and hybrids are exempt from the rule.

In September 2015, Maruti Suzuki launched the Ciaz SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle from Suzuki) and the very next month, it introduced the Ertiga SHVS in the market. These cars have been classified under the "hybrid" category and hence, are exempt from the rule.

The Ciaz and Ertiga SHVS are powered by a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, diesel engine that develops 89 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque @ 1,750 rpm. The engine is mated to 5-speed manual gearbox.

The SHVS technology features an idling start / stop system, an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) and a more powerful battery. The idling start / stop feature switches off the engine when the car is idling and switches it on when the clutch is depressed. The brake energy regeneration function charges the battery during braking. The power is stored in the battery and the system combines it with the power from the engine to help the vehicle during acceleration. The cars also come with a gearshift indicator.

Apart from being exempt from the odd-even scheme, the Ciaz and Ertiga SHVS also benefit from the Central Government's FAME India scheme. The car is eligible for a subsidy of Rs. 13,000.
