According to a media report, Maruti Suzuki could launch the Toyota Raize-based mid-size SUV in the Indian market in early 2022.
Maruti's mid-size SUV will be based on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) - a low-cost version of the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). The Raize-based SUV could be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a mild-hybrid system and it could be mated with either a manual or automatic gearbox. However, there has been no official word regarding this yet. It is expected to be pitted against the likes of the Hyundai Creta.
Maruti and Toyota are said to be co-developing two models based on the DNGA platform.
In addition to the mid-size SUV, Maruti has also lined-up two new models for the Indian market. These include the Jimny and a C-segment MPV. A 5-door version of the Suzuki Jimny is also said to be destined for India and could be launched in 2021. The Jimny could be sold through Maruti's Nexa retail channel.
The carmaker is also said to be developing a 7-seater MPV that is expected to arrive by 2023. Codenamed B560, the new model could be positioned between the Ertiga and Toyota Innova. It could get sliding rear doors.
