Citroen begins trial production of the C5 Aircross

Citroen has commenced trial production of the C5 Aircross in India. The SUV will be assembled using completely knocked down (CKD) kits at Citroen's Thiruvallur facility in Tamil Nadu.

The launch of the C5 Aircross was delayed due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. It will now be introduced in the first quarter of 2021.

The C5 Aircross is based on the PSA EMP2 platform. What makes this SUV stand out, is its quirky design. It has a split grille and chunky bumpers and body cladding with bright coloured inserts. Inside, it gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment head-unit and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The SUV also comes with a panoramic sunroof, hands-free tail gate, dual-zone automatic climate control and a powered driver's seat.

The C5 Aircross will be powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 178 BHP and will be offered with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The French carmaker is also planning to launch the C21 compact SUV with a higher percentage of locally produced parts in India.
