Chris Evans steps down from Top Gear

After just one season of the new Top Gear, the show's lead presenter, Chris Evans, has stepped down from his role. The 23rd season of Top Gear hasn't been able to garner the viewership stats of the earlier show. The show's falling ratings and plummeting viewership numbers have been the chief reason behind Chris Evans' decision.

The presenter revealed about his decision through a tweet, which said, "Stepping down from Top Gear. Gave it my best shot but sometimes that's not enough. The team are beyond brilliant, I wish them all the best." Chris was broadly condemned by viewers for his shouty presentation, and was accused of copying his predecessor, Jeremy Clarkson's style.

The latest season of Top Gear not only saw lower viewership at its start, but the stats kept on declining with every passing episode. As a matter of fact, the show had a viewer base of 4.3 million during the first episode, while the last episode that aired this Sunday was viewed by just 1.9 million people.

Meanwhile, the remaining five presenters - Matt LeBlanc, Rory Reid, Chris Harris, Sabine Schmitz and Eddie Jordan, will continue with the 24th season, which will start being filmed from September. BBC has officially confirmed that there won't be any replacement for Evans in the succeeding seasons, and the existing presenters will take over the show. This means that Matt LeBlanc will most probably be assigned the role of chief anchor for Top Gear's next season.
