China: Eighth-gen Volkswagen Passat spied

German automaker, Volkswagen is expected to debut the eighth-generation Passat sedan at the Paris Motor Show in October this year. However, the car has been revealed in pictures appearing in the Chinese media. The new Passat will use Volkswagen's MQB platform which underpins a range of cars including the current-generation Skoda Octavia.

The pictures suggest that the new Passat will get a restyled front end which sports a new grille, narrower headlamps with LEDs and bumper. At the rear there is a slimmer pair of tail lamps and a new bumper. The car also gets a set of redesigned alloy wheels.

On the inside there is a new steering wheel and restyled interiors built with better quality materials.

In terms of technology the Passat is expected to be very advanced. The car will use a lightweight body, engine start / stop technology and is even likely to be equipped with a 10-speed DSG transmission. Hybrid and BlueMotion versions of car will also be introduced.

Volkswagen is expected to bring the new Passat to India. However, there is no official word on the launch date.
