Carlos Ghosn re-arrested on fresh charges

Carlos Ghosn - the former chairman of Nissan, has been re-arrested on fresh charges of aggravated breach of trust. Ironically, a Japanese court had earlier rejected the request of prosecutors to extend his detention, paving the way for his release.

According to a media report, Ghosn has now been accused of shifting a private investment loss of over US$ 16 million on to Nissan following the 2008 financial crisis.

Earlier this year, Ghosn was arrested for financial violations including under-reporting his compensation. Representative Director Grey Kelly was also accused of helping Ghosn misreport his income. The two executives were in detention since November 19, 2018.

Reports suggest that if found guilty, Ghosn could face up to 10 years in jail and a fine of up to US$ 6.2 million. Nissan and Mitsubishi have already removed him from the chairman's post, while Renault has retained him for now and has appointed an interim management.
