BYD unveil's new hybrid tech with 2000 km range

The technology claims to achieve a record low fuel consumption of 2.9 litres per 100 km

Chinese carmaker, BYD, has unveiled a new plug-in hybrid technology which offers a claimed driving range of over 2,000 km.

As per reports, the new fifth-generation hybrid technology claims to achieve a record low fuel consumption of 2.9 litres per 100 km (or 62.1 miles) on depleted batteries. However, on a full tank of fuel and fully charged batteries, the technology manages a driving range of 2,100 km.

The new technology has already been launched on BYD's Qin L and Seal 06 models, with prices for the sedans starting at around $13,775. BYD also states that with the new technology, customers can save up to $1,362 per year, compared to those who drive pure-gasoline models.

BYD has been accelerating its international expansion for quite a while now. However, the Chinese carmaker still trails automakers like Toyota, Volkswagen, General Motors and Stellantis.
