Bugatti Veyron successor to get a hybrid powertrain

Bugatti ended the legacy of the Veyron with the La Finale. The successor to what was once the fastest road legal car in production has already been spotted on test, and a recent report confirms that the "Chiron" will use a hybrid powertrain.

In an interview with German publication Bild.de, VW Group head Martin Winterkorn reportedly confirmed that the new Bugatti will use a hybrid powertrain.

Winterkorn's statement reads, "Next to the petrol model there will be a hybrid version with added performance for the first time". Though his comment suggests that a hybrid will accompany a conventional petrol powered model, the final outcome remains to be seen. The Veyron was developed with a very heavy investment, to the extent that the company made a loss on each car sold. It suffices to say, that offering two separate powertrains on the successor will not be a cheap affair.

Media reports state that the Veyron's successor will use a redeveloped version of the Veyron's 8L, turbo-charged, W16 engine. Power output is expected to be in the region of nearly 1,500 BHP, and the car will supposedly be capable of hitting 286 mp/h (460 km/h). The car will most likely be revealed in 2016, with customer deliveries beginning in 2017.
