German luxury carmaker BMW has started rolling out the third generation X5 SUV from it Chennai facility. The company builds the xDrive30d variant of the car at this facility. Initial deliveries of the vehicle will commence by the end of this month.
The X5 xDrive30d was launched in India on May 29, 2014 at an all-India ex-showroom price of Rs. 70,90,000. The car has a 3.0-litre, inline 6-cylinder TwinPower turbo diesel developing 255 bhp @ 4000 rpm and 560 Nm of torque @ 1500-3000 rpm. The engine is mated to an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission and has an xDrive all-wheel drive system and adaptive suspension. BMW claims that the X5 can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 6.9 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 230 kph.
BMW has loaded the car with equipment such as a 10.2-inch display in the centre of the dashboard, an iDrive touch controller, Harman Kardonn audio system, satellite navigation, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, climate control, parking cameras and a panoramic glass sunroof. Safety features and driver aids include six airbags, dynamic stability control, dynamic traction control, cornering brake control, hill descent control, side impact protection, electronic vehicle immobiliser and crash sensor.
BMW claims that the demand for the X5 has been high resulting in a waiting period of three months.
