BMW Motorrad has disclosed that it will commence operations in India in October 2016. The company is expected to set up dealerships in metro cities in the initial phase.
The first BMW Motorrad model to go on sale through these dealerships will be the BMW G 310 R, which will be made in India. This bike was revealed in November 2015 and displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo.
The G 310 R is powered by a 313cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected, liquid-cooled engine that develops 34 BHP @ 9,500 rpm and 28 Nm of torque @ 7,500 rpm. Stopping power comes from single 300 mm and 240 mm disc brakes at the front and rear respectively. The motorcycle comes with dual channel ABS as a part of standard equipment. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels shod with a 110/70 section tyre at the front and a 150/60 section tyre at the rear.
Apart from the G 310 R, the new dealerships are expected to sell BMW Motorrad's CBU models.
At present, BMW Motorrad products are sold in India through the company's two distributors - Deutsche Motoren (Delhi and NCR) and Navnit Motors (rest of India).
