BMW is expected to launch the M340i xDrive variant of the 3 Series in India in 2021. The launch has been postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The M340i will be a fully-loaded variant of the sedan. It is powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-litre inline 6-cylinder engine producing 377 BHP @ 5,500-6,500 rpm and 500 Nm @ 1,850-5,000 rpm. The engine is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission and power is sent to all four wheels. The 0-100 km/h time is claimed to be 4.4 seconds.
At present, the 3 Series is available with two engine options - 330i and 320d. The 330i is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 255 BHP @ 5,000 rpm and 400 Nm @ 1,550-4,400 rpm. The 320d comes with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel that develops 188 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm @ 1,750-2,500 rpm. Both engines come paired with 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmissions.
