BMW G310R electric in the works: Patent images leaked

The new electric motorcycle will feature the same powertrain as the CE-04 scooter.

BMW is said to be working on expanding its EV portfolio. The automaker which recently launched its CE-04 electric scooter is now said to be developing an electric motorcycle to add to its lineup.

Patent images have leaked online, showcasing images of an electric motorcycle under development, with the motor and battery nestled inside the frame of what looks like the BMW G310R.

According to media reports, the new electric motorcycle will feature the same powertrain as the CE-04 scooter. This should help BMW by both reducing development time and also helping bring down costs. The electric motor and battery have been neatly packed together in the space which is usually reserved for the motorcycle's engine. The battery is tilted slightly forward, while the electric motor behind it is connected to the rear wheels via a belt drive.

The BMW CE-04 electric scooter comes with an 8.9 kWh battery offering a max claimed range of 130 km. The electric motor has a maximum output of 42 BHP, allowing the CE-04 to sprint from 0 - 50 km/h in 2.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 120 km/h.

BMW has neither revealed any specifics of the electric motorcycle, nor a launch timeline. However, reports do suggest that if the bike does enter production, it will be priced higher than the G310R.
