Dobbaspet to Hubbali has great roads. The car was in cruise control throughout. We maintained good speeds and covered good distance.
BHPian srikanthmadhava recently shared this with other enthusiasts:
Bangalore to Goa
CV Raman Nagar - ORR - Hebbal Junction - Nelamangala - Davanagere - Hubbali - Dharwad - Ramnagar - Ponda - Colva
596.6Km, 16.7Km/L
- 5.30AM - 4.30PM = 11Hours including 1Hr break
- ORR had huge traffic, spoiled our mood at the start.
- Smooth till Nelamangala toll, good roads till Dobbaspet - but with huge rumble strips that again spoiled the mood even more.
- Dobbaspet - Hubbali has great roads and was in cruise control throughout. Maintained good speeds and covered good distance. Mood restored.
- Stopped at Apoorva resorts for breakfast. Very average food, limited options and heavily oiled food. Great restrooms are the saving grace.
- We wanted to take the Karwar route and choose the same in Google Maps. But did not add 'stop' as Karwar. Huge mistake.
- It somehow rerouted us to Dharwad and then to the PAINFUL ride in Dharwad - Ramanagar - Anmod - Mollem section. One of the worst roads (or no-roads) I have driven. It was hell, but us surviving it means it's manageable for most.
- Once you enter Goa, it becomes better. Single lane roads, but smooth. Very low speed limit and police hawking everywhere.
- Trucks galore.
- Even after really bad roads, it took 1hr less than the return journey through Karwar.
- We reached much earlier than we expected. Sunset at Colva to restore the mood and set up the vacation.
Goa to Bangalore
Colva - Canacona - Karwar - Yellapur - Hubbali - Davanagere - Nelamangala - CV Raman Nagar
596Km, 17.9Km/L
- 12.30PM - 12.30AM = 12Hours including 1Hr break
- Colva - Karwar has Good roads throughout (almost), but it's a boring drive at 60Km/hr limit on a deserted road.
- Karwar - Yellapur also has good roads, although single lane. Nice scenic sections.
- Yellapur - Sirsi in SH6 gives tough competition to Dharwad - Ramnagar in terms of how bad a road can be. Narrow, all broken and deserted. Would have been worried if I reached here at night. A big 20~Km section is broken. And there are buses plying this narrow road.
- Hubbali - Nelamangala is again great to drive. Stopped at Kahaani restaurant - good food, but it's a mosquito hub. Many mosquitoes entered our car and we had to take time and clean them up before we could start.
- Trucks galore, usual Bangalore traffic and reached home in 12hrs exact door to door.
We did contemplate whether to drive or take a flight. We had a ton of luggage with us that helped us in our vacation, which was only possible in our car. And our drives are where we discuss lots of things about us, family, future plans, next trips and many more.
I will drive again. Barring 2 horrendous sections, which can be avoided with diversions that will add a few extra minutes, it was a good road trip.
