Baleno SHVS spotted at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar factory

We had earlier reported that the Maruti Suzuki is developing a Baleno SHVS variant, primarily for the export markets. The company now appears to have started production of the said model, as it was recently spotted at the production facility in Manesar.

It is worth noting that the SHVS technology in Baleno is being offered with the 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine as per the international-spec model. On the other hand, the Indian market will likely receive it in the diesel models. However, the company is a bit sceptical about introducing the Baleno diesel SHVS in India at the moment as it is already suffering from demand shortage that has resulted in huge waiting periods. An SHVS model for the Baleno will probably result in even more demand, thus putting additional load on the company's production line.

As a result, the automaker is currently concentrating on fulfilling the current demand for the Baleno and the Vitara Brezza, instead of launching new models and variants. This was also the reason behind the Ignis' launch being delayed to early next year.

Currently, Maruti offers the Ciaz and the Ertiga with SHVS tech. Both these models have experienced a significant hike in sales after introduction of the mild hybrid technology. In addition to the slightly improved fuel economy, presence of SHVS also attracts a subsidy under the Indian Government's FAME India initiative. Both the Ciaz and the Ertiga currently enjoy a government subsidy of Rs. 13,000.
