Bajaj Auto and Triumph Motorcycles have formally announced a long term, non-equity partnership to build a new range of mid-capacity bikes.
As part of the partnership, the two bike makers will collaborate to design, engineer and manufacture a range of motorcycles in the 200-750cc segment.
Bajaj and Triumph will build a new platform and engines with capacities ranging from 200-750cc. Prices of the new range of bikes will start from under Rs. 2 lakh in India.
Triumph hopes that the partnership will enable it to enter the mid-size segment in high-volume emerging markets of Asia, including India. Bajaj will take over Triumph's Indian distribution activities. Bajaj will also represent Triumph and offer the new mid-capacity bikes in markets where Triumph is not currently present. In other markets where Triumph is present, the bike maker will market the jointly developed bikes.
