Bajaj, Triumph form partnership to build mid-capacity bikes

Bajaj Auto has announced a partnership with Triumph Motorcycles to jointly develop mid-capacity bikes for Indian and global markets. This tie-up is a non-equity partnership.

Bajaj Auto plans to enhance its portfolio with new mid-capacity bikes. With access to Triumph's motorcycles, it expects to be able to offer a wider range of bikes in the domestic and international markets.

On the other hand, Triumph will look to benefit from Bajaj Auto's foothold in high-volume segments in emerging markets of the world. This is expected to enable the brand to expand its reach and increase its sales.

It has been reported that Bajaj may also plan to manufacture Triumph motorcycles in India. At present, the company builds KTM motorcycles at its Chakan plant and controls a 47 percent stake in the Austrian brand. It may be recalled that Bajaj had a partnership with Kawasaki, which ended in April 2017.
