Audi's quattro GmbH division has now been renamed to Audi Sport GmbH. The quattro division is Audi's performance-oriented arm that is responsible for the research and development of high-performance vehicles, including the R8 and the RS range. This division must not be confused with the automaker's all-wheel-drive system, which is also called quattro.
quattro GmbH was founded in 1983. In addition to taking care of the R&D of Audi's performance vehicles, the division is also responsible for customer race cars, customised road cars, and Audi's lifestyle products. No other organisational changes have been made to the division as it is still headquartered in Neckarsulm, Germany. It will continue to be headed by former Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann.
The present Audi Sport portfolio includes 7 cars: RS 3, RS Q3, RS 6, RS 7, TT RS, R8 and S8 Plus. The automaker has confirmed that 8 new launches will be made under the brand in the next 18 months. Moreover, the number of dedicated Audi Sport dealerships will also be increased from the current count of 370 to 600, by the end of 2017.
