Audi Q8 prototype spotted testing

Audi will be unveiling the Q8 Concept at the upcoming 2017 North American Motor Show, in Detroit. Meanwhile, the automaker appears to have already started working on the production-spec model of this concept, since a heavily camouflaged test mule of the Audi Q8 with production body has recently been spotted testing. Audi is expected to launch the Q8 in the international markets by 2019.

The Q8 will be placed a slot higher than the Q7, and will thus become Audi's new flagship SUV. It will be based on the MLB platform, which is also used in the Q7. As a result, both these cars will share many mechanical components, including the engine options on offer.

The spy shots suggest that the Q8 has been given a coupe-like silhouette, which makes it look like a competitor to the BMW X6 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe. The steeply raked roof line will also help Audi designers to differentiate the looks of the Q8 and the Q7. The spy shots further suggest that the Q8 will get redesigned headlights and taillights, while the singleframe front grille will be placed a tad lower, as compared to its placement on the Q7. Reports suggest that the production-spec Q8 will come with full-LED headlights, something that is essential for a flagship luxury SUV.

Audi had recently released a couple of official teaser images of the Q8 Concept, ahead of its Detroit debut. The teasers showcased the car to have E-tron badges, which indicate that it will come with an electrified powertrain. Audi might carry this powertrain from the concept to the production model, keeping in mind the rising interest in electric/hybrid SUVs.
