The Audi A4 has been awarded a five star rating in in Euro NCAP crash tests.The car scored 34.5 points (or 90%) for adult occupant safety, 43 points (or 87%) for child occupant safety, 37.4 points (or 75%) for pedestrian protection and 9.9 points (75%) for safety assist.
The crash test report for adult occupant safety states that the passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal offset crash, with good protection offered for the knees and femurs of the driver and passenger. The full width rigid barrier test showed that the protection for the driver's chest was adequate, while that for the passenger was marginal. Protection of other body areas was good. In side barrier test, the A4 scored maximum points, with good protection of all critical parts of the body. However, in the more severe side pole impact, the car offered marginal protection of the chest. The seats and head restraints provided good protection against whiplash injury in the event of a rear-end collision.
The crash test report for child occupant safety states that in the dynamic impact tests. The test results showed good protection for both the 1½ and 3 year dummies. The passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward-facing restraint to be used in that seating position. Information regarding the status of the airbag is provided to the driver. All of the restraint types for which the A4 is designed could be properly installed and accommodated in the car.
Coming to pedestrian protection, the A4 is equipped with an active bonnet. Good or adequate results were recorded on almost every test location. The protection provided to the leg by the bumper, and that provided to the pelvis, ranged from marginal to good.
The A4 is equipped with features such as electronic stability control, seatbelt reminder for the front and rear seats, autonomous emergency braking system, driver-set speed limiter as a part of standard equipment.
