All-new Nissan Patrol review part 1; Replacing a 2018 BMW X5

Moving from a twin turbo set up on the BMW X5, this was not an easy option.

BHPian vigsom recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

Introduction

Fate can sometimes throw unbelievable opportunities, and for me, one such opportunity was to be able to experience an out-of-the-ordinary vehicle that has barely yet been seen on the roads - the All-New Nissan Patrol code named Y63.

Many firsts around this experience

This experience is the first of a kind for me in many ways

1. first invitation to be part of a car reception committee outside India
2. one of the first cars of this shade to be delivered in the UAE
3. first time I've unboxed a car ever
4. highest number of pics that I've clicked per unit time
5. largest car that I've sat in after the Dodge Laramie
6. first time I won't be able to post a thread in one shot - as there is so much to showcase

If twin turbo is the one to choose, I'd go with the encircled option. How this ownership story began

A close family member was looking to part with his 2018 BMW X5; the next target car in mind was the All-New Mazda CX-90, and serious considerations were made around this. While this was on, I received a message one evening to state, "Gaadi book kiya"(car's been booked), make and model is the surprise element." After some time, comes another message," Beast of the Middle East, if you can figure out". Although there are many beasts in the Middle East, the most sought after one is what we are talking about, and I guessed right.

Variant selected and reasoning behind that

Moving from a twin turbo set up on the BMW X5, this was not an easy option. However, considering the capital, use case and the oomph, the buyer decided on an SE Platinum City.

Availability

Being the All-New Patrol, there was obviously a large number of bookings, and the only chance of an early delivery was

a) choose an exterior shade that isn't white or black
b) choose an interior shade that isn't white, beige or tan

I was not personally happy with the final choice of a) and b) as brochures and youtube videos showed them not-so-real, but the pic of the car on the opening post should have given you all an idea of how the forest green actually looks - just stunning!!

Fortune smiles

Despite choosing a "not-so-popular" shade, delivery of the vehicle was still a challenge, but suddenly, things started moving with the intervention of a big man viz. the owner of a dealership. Delivery was promised within a month of booking as the shade combination wasn't a popular choice.

Long long ago, I was told by the buyer, " My next car will be received with you in attendance". When the BMW X5 got sold (that was a saga in itself), and delivery of the Patrol was round the corner, I was summoned to be there. Freedom from my work schedule, availability of good tickets, and issuance of the visa - all happened like clockwork.
