All-electric Ford F-150 Lightning with 563 BHP unveiled

Ford has unveiled its new F-150 Lightning pickup with a 563 BHP electric powertrain.

The new all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning has been unveiled.

The new F-150 Lightning carries forward the same design language as its conventional IC-engine powered siblings. It does, however, come with an updated front fascia featuring an LED DRL strip running over an updated grille and connecting the LED headlamps. The side and rear profiles also carry forward the regular truck's design, with the only significant changes being the new alloy wheel design and an updated set of LED tail lights.

The interior of the Ford F-150 Lightning pickup comes with a 15.5-inch central touchscreen infotainment head-unit with connected technology, wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto and Ford's latest SYNC 4A system. It also comes with a 12-inch customisable digital instrument cluster.

The Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck comes with dual-electric motors (one at each axle), paired to a lithium-ion battery pack. This will be offered in two versions - standard and extended range.

The standard battery pack is said to produce 426 BHP and have a range of 370 km. The extended range version produces 563 BHP and has a claimed range of 483 km on a single charge. Both versions, however, will churn out 1,044 Nm - the highest torque figures on an F-150 to date.

Ford claims a maximum payload capacity of 907 kg and a towing capacity of 4.5 tons for the electric pickup. The F-150 Lightning comes with a 'frunk' (front boot) which offers an additional 400 litres of luggage space.

The all-electric F-150 pickup truck will be offered in three variants - XLT, Lariat & Platinum. The pickup will go on sale in the US in the spring of 2022 at a starting price of US$ 39,974 (approximately Rs. 29.95 lakh). Ford will manufacture the vehicle at their Rouge Electric Vehicle Centre in Dearborn, Michigan.
