4th-gen Hyundai Santa Fe unveiled

Hyundai has unveiled the 2018 Santa Fe that will go on sale in Europe and North America later this year. The 4th-gen Santa Fe measures 4,770 mm in overall length and is 1,890 mm wide and 1,680 mm in height. The wheelbase is 2,765 mm while the ground clearance is 185 mm. Luggage space has been increased by 40-litres to 625-litres.

The new Santa Fe adopts Hyundai's styling language for SUVs while retaining the cascading grille. The front features Hyundai's Composite Light with the LED DRLs positioned on top of the main LED headlights. A prominent shoulder line extends from the front and wraps around the tail light. The side profile features square-ish fender flares and chrome trim around the window line & belt line. 

The Santa Fe features a gently sloping roof replete with a panoramic sunroof, roof rails and an integrated rear spoiler. The rear features a raked windshield and wraparound tail lights. The bumper houses a set of reverse lights with chrome trim around the corners. A silver scuff plate has also been provided. Depending on the trim level, the Santa Fe comes with 17-inch, 18-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels.

On the inside, the Santa Fe gets a dual-tone dashboard with a centrally-mounted 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring navigation and connectivity options like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Lower variants get a 5-inch monochrome TFT screen. On the driver's side you have a 3-spoke, multi-functional steering wheel and a 3-pod instrument cluster with a 7-inch TFT colour display in the centre. The driver and passenger get 10-way adjustable electric seats wrapped in quilted leather upholstery. Second-row passengers get separate air-conditioning vents and a foldable centre arm rest. Hyundai claims that the second row of seats are positioned 18 mm higher than the previous model. Also, legroom is claimed to have gone up by 38 mm. Headroom in the third row has increased by 22 mm. The rear quarter glass is 41% larger than before and is claimed to improve rear visibility and third row comfort.

The new Santa Fe is offered with three diesel and one petrol engine option. The base 2.0-litre, 3-cylinder diesel engine produces 148 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 397 Nm of torque @ 1,750 rpm. The mid 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel unit makes 180 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 397 Nm @ 1,750 rpm, while the top-spec 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine produces 193 BHP @ 3,800 rpm and 436 Nm @ 1,750 rpm. The 2.0-litre diesel engines are offered with either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission. 2WD and 4WD options are available only with the manual transmission while the automatic transmission is offered only with a 4WD configuration. The 2.2-litre diesel unit comes with a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic with 2WD or 4WD. The 2.4-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine puts out 182 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 241 Nm @ 4,000 rpm and is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and HTRAC all-wheel drive system. 

The 4th-gen Santa Fe comes equipped with Hyundai SmartSense active safety and driving assistance feature. This includes Rear Occupant Alert, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Warning, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with pedestrian detection, Lane Keeping Assist, Speed Limit Info Function, Safety Exit Assist which temporarily locks the doors when a vehicle is detected approaching from behind. It also comes with an 8-inch full head-up display.
