2021 BMW S 1000 R unveiled

The asymmetrical headlamp has been replaced with a conventional unit.

BMW Motorrad has revealed the new S 1000 R naked roadster. The bike gets new body panels, a new LED headlight and an updated engine.

The 2021 BMW S 1000 R is based on a flex-frame chassis and weighs 199 kg (kerb weight), which is 6.5 kg less than the outgoing model. The bike drops its asymmetrical headlamp for a more conventional unit with an integrated LED daytime running light.

The new S 1000 R is powered by a 999cc, in-line 4-cylinder engine that has been updated to comply with Euro 5 regulations. It produces 162 BHP @ 11,000 rpm and 114 Nm @ 9,250 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. BMW claims that it will do 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of over 250 km/h.

The bike comes equipped with 45 mm upside down forks at the front and monoshock at the rear. It features twin 320 mm disc brakes at the front and gets a single 220 mm disc at the rear.

The S 1000 R comes with wide array of electronic aids including 6-axis inertial measurement unit with dynamic traction control, ABS Pro, Riding modes - rain, road and dynamic and a 6.5-inch digital instrument cluster. The Riding modes Pro package adds a configurable dynamic pro mode, engine drag torque control, power wheelie and dynamic brake control functions. Other options include M forged wheels, M Carbon wheels, lightweight battery, titanium exhaust, M endurance chain, M laptrigger unlock mode, M sport seat and M fuel cap.
