2019 Yamaha YZF-R3 patent images leaked

Yamaha has registered design patents of the 2019 YZF-R3 with patent offices in Australia and Turkey. The images reveal the bike’s updated styling in detail.

The patent images suggest that the new YZF-R3 is likely to borrow styling cues from the larger R6 and R1 superbike. The bike features a V-shaped air-intake at the front flanked by sweptback twin headlamps and gets turn signals placed on the side fairings. The fuel tank has also been redesigned. The bike comes with a split seat, while the side-mounted exhaust appears to have been carried over. Unlike the current YZF-R3, the new model has upside down front forks.

While Yamaha hasn't revealed any technical details about the bike, the new R3 is likely to retain its 321cc, in-line 2-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. It produces 41 BHP @ 10,750 rpm and 29.6 Nm @ 9,000 rpm and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
