The 2018 Ninja 400 was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show last year. Kawasaki has now introduced the updated Ninja 400 in India at a price of Rs. 4.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Ninja 400 will be available in limited numbers and will be sold alongside the Ninja 300. The bike is assembled at Kawasaki's factory in Chakan, Pune and comes in a KRT edition finished in a dual-tone of green and black.
The new Ninja 400 is based on a steel trellis frame that's similar to the Ninja H2. It measures 2,020 mm in length, 710 mm in width and 1,120 mm in height. The bike's wheelbase is 1,370 mm and the seat height is 785 mm. The Ninja 400 weighs 173 kg (kerb weight) and it comes with a 14-litre fuel tank.
The new Ninja 400 features dual LED headlamps up front with turn signals placed on the side fairing. The chin spoilers at the bottom of the front cowl are inspired by the Ninja H2 and ZX-10R, while the tail light design has been borrowed from the 2016 Ninja ZX-10R. Further, Kawasaki has incorporated a cover for the radiator fan which directs heat away from the rider. The instrument cluster is identical to the Ninja 650, featuring an analogue tachometer accompanied by a digital readout. The bike rides on 41 mm telescopic forks in the front and an adjustable monoshock rear suspension. The bike comes equipped with clip-on handle bars, stepped seat and a side-mounted exhaust finished in matte black with a chrome heat shield.
The 2018 Ninja 400 is powered by a 399 cc, parallel-twin cylinder engine which produces 48 BHP @ 10,000 rpm and 38 Nm of peak torque @ 8,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission. Brakes come in the form of a single semi-floating 310 mm petal type disc in the front and a 220 mm petal type disc in the rear with dual-piston calipers at both ends. ABS is part of the standard equipment. The bike rides on 17-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels shod with 110/70 R17 and 150/60 R17 tyres in the front and rear respectively.
