2017 Volkswagen Passat spied again on Indian roads

The 2017 Volkswagen Passat has been spotted testing in India without any camouflage once again. The car was earlier spotted during test runs on the Mumbai-Pune expressway, though only its rear portion could be snapped at that time. The new spy shot reveals the car's front fascia.

The new-gen Passat was showcased in India at the 2016 Auto Expo. Volkswagen is expected to launch it in the country in the second quarter of 2017. The vehicle spotted is believed to be a diesel version, while a plug-in hybrid is also likely to be introduced in the Indian market.

The 2017 Passat diesel will likely carry forward the earlier model's 2.0-litre TDI engine that previously churned out 168 BHP. It will likely be offered with a 6-speed DSG gearbox. Meanwhile, the plug-in hybrid variant, known as the Passat GTE, uses a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine and an electric motor that cumulatively develop 215 BHP and 400 Nm of torque.

The Volkswagen Passat will compete against the Toyota Camry, Skoda Superb, and the upcoming Honda Accord.
