2017 Honda CR-V unveiled in Detroit

Honda has unveiled the 2017 CR-V in Detroit, North America. This marks the introduction of the fifth-generation model. It will go on sale in the US before the end of this year. The company also claimed to have sold over 4 million units of the CR-V in the American market, since its debut in 1997.

The 2017 CR-V does borrow some of its characteristics from the new-gen Civic. The front gets a chromed Solid Wing grille, wraparound headlights with LED DRLs, and beefier front bumper. The higher Touring trim gets LED headlights. Meanwhile, the front grille gets an active shutter system that helps in lowering the aerodynamic drag while cruising at higher speeds. The CR-V comes with 17 or 18-inch alloys, depending on the trim level. The rear gets LED tail lights, and Hands-Free Access Power Tailgate, which has been equipped for the first time in a Honda car.

On the inside, the new CR-V gets a revamped dashboard design, a multi-functional steering wheel, digital instrument cluster, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Connectivity. The gear lever has been mounted on the centre console instead of the floor, similar to the arrangement found on the earlier-gen model. Other features on the higher-end trims include remote engine start, dual-zone climate control, heated ORVMs, Electric Parking Brake (EPB), rear USB charging ports, 4-way power adjustable front passenger seat, 8-way power adjustable driver seat, 4-way power lumbar support, and heated front seats.

The 2017 Honda CR-V gets a turbocharged engine, which is a first for the CR-V moniker. This 1.5-litre, DOHC turbo petrol engine is the same unit that powers the new-gen Civic. This power mill develops around 187 BHP and 243 Nm of torque. Base models get a naturally aspirated 2.4-litre direct-injected i-VTEC engine that churns out around 181 BHP and 244 Nm of torque. Both engines are equipped with a CVT as standard.
