11th-gen Honda Civic prototype unveiled

A sportier Type R variant will also be on offer.

Honda has previewed the eleventh generation Civic in prototype form. The production version of the car will debut sometime next year.

The new Civic is based on the same platform as the current model, but gets a styling upgrade, new technology and safety features.

The new Civic gets a slimmer front grille and re-profiled LED headlamps with L-shaped LED daytime running lights. The C-shaped tail lamps have been replaced with a more conventional design featuring L-shaped LEDs. The boot lid has an integrated lip spoiler and oval exhaust tips. The car rides on 19-inch alloy wheels.

The interior looks pretty undramatic too. It has a floating 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment head-unit in the centre and a simple yet classy 3-spoke steering wheel as well as a digital instrument cluster. According to Honda, the new Civic comes loaded with various active and passive safety systems including an upgraded Honda Sensing Suite.

The eleventh generation Civic will be offered in two body styles - sedan and hatchback. A sportier Type R will also be on offer and will it will come with a manual transmission as standard.
