Nissan's version of next-gen Duster to be more upmarket

Both brands will also offer 7-seater versions of their respective midsize SUVs.

The Renault Duster is all set to make its comeback in the Indian market. The next generation iteration of the Duster will go on sale in 2025. It will be followed by Nissan’s version of the midsize SUV.

While Nissan hasn’t revealed much about its version of the Duster, the latest reports have revealed new information about the model’s positioning. It is said that Nissan’s yet-unnamed midsize SUV will be more upmarket and will be positioned above the Renault Duster. It is likely to get more advanced features and could be offered in fewer variants.

Both SUVs will be based on a heavily localized CMF-B platform. The Duster is expected to get three engine options – a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.3-litre turbo petrol. Reports suggest that Nissan might offer turbo-petrols only.

Both brands will also offer 7-seater versions of their respective midsize SUVs. These are expected to be launched in India by 2026. Nissan might adopt a similar strategy when it comes to its market positioning.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny vs Duster AWD: Owner shares his views

Both are completely different vehicles. A monocoque, turbo diesel AWD vs a body on frame RWD petrol 4x4.

BHPian Samba recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

The Duster was sold in Dec 2023.

My views on Jimny vs Duster AWD -

Both are completely different vehicles.

A monocoque, turbo diesel AWD vs a body on frame RWD petrol 4x4.

If I still compare both these cars-

The Duster scores in -

Comfort, space, fun to drive, handling, diesel (low running cost), the AWD when kept in auto mode used to do 99.9% of its job.

What went against the Duster -

Reliability, availability of spares off the shelve, and maintenance cost were on the higher side.

Due to the lack of availability of the spares off the shelve, I was a bit skeptical about taking the Duster for long drives to remote places. If anything goes wrong, I would be stranded till the spares arrive, plus Renault service centers are also not available in most of the remote locations.

For my last few long drives with the Duster, I myself carried a few spare parts which fails commonly in a Duster. I kept the toolkit ready too, in case of a failure.

Where Jimny scores -

Peace of mind, old school petrol engine which can be fixed anywhere if anything goes wrong. Plus Maruti service centers are available everywhere. More capable on the off-road drives. Plus I can take it to NCR anytime without the fear of BS4 diesel bans. The Jimny's small dimension is a boon for the congested city drives and parking too.

Where I miss the Duster AWD -

Jimny lacks the outright highway performance of the Duster, the Duster was a much faster car than the Jimny, be it on the highways or on the hills. The space and comfort of the Duster is still unmatched.

Scoop! More dope on Nissan & Renault CMF-B SUVs for India

Renault-Nissan is also evaluating the possibility of launching a 4x4 variant at a later stage.

Last month, Renault and Nissan announced their plans to launch four new SUVs in India. These include two models based on the localized version of the CMF-B platform. We have just received new information on Renault and Nissan’s upcoming SUVs.

According to sources, Renault-Nissan aims to make these crossovers look, feel and drive like vehicles from a segment above. It is said to be the most ambitious project the brands have ever undertaken in India, with the senior management personally overseeing the development.

Unlike the Kiger and Magnite, which share the same platform, but have totally different designs, most of the sheet metal will be shared among the new CMF-B SUVs to optimize economies of scale. However, soft parts like the bumpers, grille, etc. will be different to give them a distinct visual identity. Each car will boast unique interiors while incorporating shared components.

Renault-Nissan’s new CMF-B SUVs are likely to get two turbo-petrol engine options, with as many as four gearbox options at launch. The carmakers are also evaluating the possibility of launching a 4x4 variant at a later stage.

Renault and Nissan haven’t revealed the exact launch timeline for the upcoming models. 7-seater derivates of the SUVs could also be on the cards.

Renault and Nissan confirm four new SUVs for India

The Renault Duster is expected to be launched in India by late 2025.

Renault and Nissan have confirmed four new SUVs for the Indian market. The carmaker plans to introduce two midsize SUVs, which include the new Renault Duster and its Nissan version. Both models will also spawn their respective 7-seater derivatives.

Renault-Nissan has released a teaser showing the upcoming SUVs in their concept form. Both models will be based on the localized version of the CMF-B platform.

The Renault version looks quite similar to the European-spec Duster. The aggressive-looking front end features a rectangular grille flanked by slim headlamps with integrated LED DRLs. The Nissan version adopts a completely different design with L-shaped LED DRLs connected by an LED light bar and a chrome strip running across the front end.

Renault and Nissan haven’t revealed the exact launch timeline for the upcoming models. However, we can expect the Renault Duster to arrive by late 2025, followed by Nissan’s 5-seater SUV and subsequently the 7-seater iterations.
