Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas has won the 2019 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. He finished ahead of his team mate Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel.
Despite Ferrari's straight-line advantage, Vettel could not challenge the two Mercedes cars in front of him. His team mate Charles Leclerc, who started in eighth place after crashing out in Q2 only managed to finish in fifth place. Red Bull's Max Verstappen finished in the fourth place.
Sergio Perez (Racing Point) finished in sixth place ahead of McLaren's Carlos Sainz. Lando Norris (McLaren) finished in eighth place ahead of Lance Stroll in the Racing Point. Kimi Raikkonen in the Alfa Romeo started from the pit lane and managed to finish in the final points position.
Daniel Ricciardo (Renault) crashed into Daniil Kvyat (Torro Rosso) while reversing in the run-off area after out-breaking himself. Both cars suffered damage and had to retire. Red Bull's Pierre Gasly also retired due to a mechanical issue. Charles Leclerc pitted for fresh tires in the closing stages of the race to claim the fastest lap.
Valterri Bottas now leads the championship from Hamilton by 1 point. The next race will be held in Spain on May 12, 2019.
