A test mule of the Suzuki Jimny has been spied testing in India for the first time. The car was spotted in Manesar, near Gurgaon.
The test car was a 3-Door Sierra variant. This variant comes with the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that also powers the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ciaz and S-Cross. This naturally aspirated unit puts out 103 BHP and 138 Nm. The Jimny will be rear-wheel drive and will come with a selectable 4-wheel drive system.
Reports suggest that Maruti Suzuki will also offer a 5-door variant of the Jimny in India. It is rumoured that it could be co-developed with Toyota. The SUV could share its underpinnings with the Toyota Raize.
It has also been reported that Suzuki plans to make India the sole production hub for the Jimny. The car would initially be assembled at Maruti's Gurgaon plant.
