Mahindra has been mulling the launch of the SsangYong Tivoli compact SUV in India. A few months ago, we had reported that the car had been imported to India for research and development purposes (link to news article). This time around Krishna - a Motorbash reader, has spotted a test mule of this SUV, in Bangalore.
The test mule is heavily camouflaged. Still, its 16" twin 5-spoke alloy wheels, 4-disc brakes, rear wiper + washer, ORVMs with turn indicators and day/night IRVM can be noticed.
The Tivoli is shorter (length and height), but wider than the Hyundai Creta. At 2,600 mm, it has a longer wheelbase than the Creta's 2,590 mm. The test mule appears to have a much lower ground clearance in comparison to its competitors - Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross etc.
In international markets, the Tivoli is available with a 1.6L, 4-cylinder petrol (124 BHP / 160 Nm) and diesel (113 BHP / 300 Nm) engine. There's an option of a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission. Rumours suggest that in India, this SUV might use the 1.5L, 3-cylinder diesel engine from the TUV300. However, nothing has been confirmed as yet.
The Tivoli, if launched in India, will be SsangYong's second offering, after the Rexton. It had officially made its debut in international markets in January 2015.
