Rumour: Suzuki Spacia-based compact MPV to be launched in India

The Maruti Suzuki YDB compact MPV will be positioned below the Ertiga and XL6 and will compete with the Renault Triber.

Maruti Suzuki is reportedly planning to introduce a new compact MPV in the Indian market. According to the latest reports, the new model (codenamed: YDB) will be based on the Suzuki Spacia and is likely to debut around 2026.

The Suzuki Spacia is a compact car sold in the Japanese market. It measures 3,395 mm in length and features a boxy design, typical of Kei cars. It even has sliding doors in the rear for ease of access.

According to media reports, Maruti’s version of the Spacia for the Indian market will be a bit different. It is said that the car will be slightly longer but will remain under 4 meters in length.

While the Spacia has 2-rows of seats, the stretched YDB is expected to feature a 3-row layout. However, the sliding rear doors could be replaced with conventional hinged units to keep costs down.

In Japan, the Spacia is offered with a 660cc engine, however, the Indian version could use the 1.2-litre Z Series petrol engine from the upcoming Swift. Maruti might offer a choice of manual and automatic transmissions.
