News of the Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350X and 500X first broke when spy images of the bikes surfaced online back in December 2017. Now, according to a media report, Royal Enfield is likely to launch the new variants on February 28, 2018.
Both 350 cc and 500 cc versions will be offered in dual-tone colour schemes with blacked-out cycle parts which include the engine, crankcase, exhaust, front forks and 9-spoke alloy wheels. The bikes also get a circular headlamp with an LED DRL ring, twin-pod instrument cluster and handle bars finished in matte black. Besides this, a re-profiled seat has been added along with new rear grab handles.
Mechanically, the 350X and 500X are expected to be identical to their respective standard versions. The 350X is likely to be based on the Thunderbird 350, which is powered by a 346 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine which makes 19.8 BHP @ 5,250 rpm and 28 Nm of torque @ 4,000 rpm. Similarly, the 500X is likely to get the same 499 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine as the Thunderbird 500. It produces 27.2 BHP @ 5,250 rpm and 41.3 Nm @ 4,000 rpm. Both bikes will be offered with a 5-speed gearbox and disc brakes at both ends.
