According to a media report, Hyundai is likely to announce the name of the upcoming small hatchback on October 4, 2018. The company will launch a contest on August 16, where people can suggest a name for the car. It is rumoured that the new model could bear the Santro badge followed by a suffix.
Spy images suggest that the hatchback might have similar proportions to the 1st-gen i10. It appears to have a cascade grille up front, a tall boy side profile and an almost upright rear fascia. The interior features a 3-spoke steering wheel and an amber backlit centre console.
Media reports suggest that the car is likely to be powered by an updated version of the 1.1-litre petrol engine that was offered on the Santro Xing and could be paired with a 5-speed automated manual transmission. By 2020, the engine is expected to be upgraded to comply with BS-VI norms.
The next-gen Santro (Codenamed: AH2) is rumoured to be launched by the end of October 2018. It will compete with cars like the Tata Tiago and Maruti Alto K10.
