The all-new Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series was internationally unveiled earlier this year. The latest iteration of the Japanese brand's flagship SUV is now on sale in international markets.
Now, according to a new media report, Toyota is said to be working on introducing an updated version of their smaller Prado model as well. Reports suggest that the next-generation Toyota Land Cruiser Prado could be unveiled as early as 2022.
The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado last received a major facelift back in 2009, although Toyota has been introducing multiple subtle updates over the years. The Prado, which continues to remain on sale in certain international markets, received a minor update as recently as June 2021, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Land Cruiser.
While details of the upcoming 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado are scarce, reports suggest that the new model will continue to retain its ladder-frame underpinnings, while its design could be inspired by the new Land Cruiser 300 Series.
Powertrain options are expected to remain unchanged. This includes a 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine and a 2.7-litre petrol unit. However, Toyota could also be looking at installing the 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 diesel engine from the new 300 Series on the upcoming Prado.
Recently there were also rumours of Toyota working on a diesel-hybrid powertrain, which could potentially be considered for the upcoming Prado as well.
