Rumour: Hyundai mulling Ioniq plug-in hybrid for India

Hyundai is reportedly planning to launch the Ioniq plug-in hybrid in India next year. The Ioniq made its global debut earlier this year, and is offered in three electrified options: hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric. For India, Hyundai is planning for the Ioniq plug-in hybrid variant.

The Hyundai Ioniq plug-in hybrid is powered by a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that develops around 104 BHP and 147 Nm of torque. This gasoline engine is coupled to a 45kW (around 60 BHP) electric motor. The motor receives power from a lithium-ion polymer battery rated at 8.9 kWh. This powertrain is mated to a 6-speed dual clutch transmission. The Hyundai Ioniq plug-in Hybrid boasts of an all-electric range of over 50 km.

The Hyundai Ioniq will benefit from the Government of India's FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of hybrid & Electric vehicles) initiative, and is thus expected to come at a competitive price tag.
