Rumour: Hyundai to launch sporty i20 N Line in 2021 in India

Hyundai's N Line range includes slightly tuned and sportier versions of its regular models.

According to a media report, Hyundai plans to launch its N Line brand in India, which includes slightly tuned and sportier versions of its regular models. The report states that the carmaker could introduce the i20 N Line by mid-2021.

The N Line cars get a more powerful engine and stiffer suspension. Hyundai engineers also upgrade the brakes, steering rack and exhaust. The i20 N Line that is being touted for India gets similar upgrades in addition to a sporty exterior.

The i20 N Line gets a dual-tone exterior with red highlights and a unique body kit with a roof spoiler at the rear. The car also gets larger wheels and low-profile tyres. Under the bonnet, it has a 1.6-litre, turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 204 BHP and 275 Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and comes with a limited-slip differential. A smaller 1.0-litre, turbo-petrol motor producing 118 BHP is also available.

The report states that Hyundai could offer the latter in India, while the more potent version could be imported under the new rule that allows carmakers to import 2,500 units without homologation. Depending on the response, Hyundai could even start assembling these cars locally.

Hyundai's N sub-brand has been named after its Namyang R&D centre and its European Technical Centre at the Nurburgring.
