Recent media reports suggest that the 2016 Hyundai Elantra launch in India has been scheduled for August 23, 2016. This comes a week after dealerships across the country started accepting bookings of the upcoming sedan.
Hyundai has been testing the next-gen Elantra from quite some time in India, as multiple spy shots of the car had surfaced on the Internet. The sixth-gen Elantra will replace the current-gen model, which has been on sale in India since 2012. This D-segment offering will compete against the likes of the Toyota Corolla Altis and the Skoda Octavia.
Powering options on the new Hyundai Elantra will include a 2.0-litre, four cylinder petrol engine rated at 147 BHP and a 1.6-litre CRDi diesel unit that churns out 134 BHP. Both the petrol and diesel power mills will be offered with the option of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Hyundai dealers are reportedly offering discounts of around Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 50,000 on the current Elantra to clear stocks before the next-gen model's launch.
