Rumour: Diesel Hybrid Toyota Innova Crysta, Fortuner on cards

The diesel hybrid models are rumoured to debut in South East Asian markets in Q2 of 2022.

According to a media report, Toyota is developing diesel hybrid powertrains for the Innova Crysta, Fortuner, HiAce and the Hilux pickup truck. The diesel hybrid models are rumoured to debut in South East Asian markets in Q2 of 2022.

The diesel hybrid tech is said to be codenamed GD Hybrid and the project code is 188D. GD is the series of engines that is currently powering the aforementioned models. These include the 2.8-litre 1GD-FTV, 2.4-litre 2GD-FTV and the 1GD engine that powers the Hiace.

In India, the 2.8-litre and 2.4-litre diesel engines are offered in the Fortuner and Innova Crysta respectively. It is likely that the next generation models could get the diesel hybrid tech, although there has no official confirmation regarding this yet.
