Royal Enfield Himalayan duo spied on test

Royal Enfield’s first new motorcycle type since the Continental GT has been spotted on test. This time around, two test mules were seen riding together. The images give us a better look at the bike’s front and rear.

The motorcycle gets an old fashioned boxy tail-light, yellow turn signal indicator covers, bulky fuel tank, upward facing exhaust, front and rear disc brakes, spoke wheels, a dirt bike like rear mudguard, all-new tyres and what appears to be a monoshock rear suspension. The headlamp cluster and front mudguard are similar to that of the Continental GT. The bike gets black wing mirrors and rubber covers for the black front forks (possibly long travel).

The riding stance is still quite upright, though the footpegs are slightly angled for a more involving riding posture. There is enough room for a pillion seat, but this model will most likely be marketed as a single seater, with the pillion seat being offered as an accessory.

Power is said to come from a new 400-410cc single cylinder engine that Royal Enfield could choose to use as a replacement for the current UCE 350 in future models. Mechanical details remain speculatory to a large extent, but the Himalayan will not be another "old-wine-in-a-new-bottle" product from Royal Enfield.
