Renault 5 Turbo 3E to enter production; 500 BHP high-performance EV

The 5 Turbo 3E is capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds

Renault has confirmed that its extreme electric hot hatchback, the 5 Turbo 3E will be put into production.

The Renault 5 Turbo 3E will be offered as a limited-run, road-going version of the concept. This includes a retro-inspired hatchback with body panels mostly made of carbon fibre and a bespoke electric powertrain with dual electric motor setup - one on each rear wheel, producing a combined power output of 500 BHP.

Renault has yet to reveal the size of the battery pack, however, the carmaker does claim that the 5 Turbo 3E is capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.

In terms of design, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E features a totally unique 2-door hatchback styling. The front end is heavily inspired by the original with the miniature headlights above the air intake and lower splitter. Aggressively styled bonnet up-front, flared wheel arches filled with large alloys and tyres, side skirts, the vertically-stacked tail lights have been retained from the standard 5 Turbo, a rear bumper with a massive diffuser and a small roof-mounted rear wing.

Renault hasn't unveiled the interior of the 5 Turbo 3E. However, expect it to be a two-seater again heavily inspired by the original.

The Renault 5 Turbo 3E will be built in-house by a specialist team at its factory in France. Being a limited-edition electric hot hatchback, Renault will offer a range of colour schemes and personalisation options. Prices although yet to be officially revealed, is expected to be over 100,000 euros.
