Petrol cars under Rs 15 lakh: Should be fun-to-drive and comfortable

I already have a Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Venue & a BMW 3 Series in the garage.

BHPian Bimmer_Sage recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Hey lovely people.

I am in the market for a new car for under Rs 15 lakhs. Mostly city driving with some highway drives. 600 km one way. A car with a punchy ride and one that’s comfortable.

I am not looking for a diesel, and not looking for a Maruti, Tata or Mahindra or a Nissan either. I currently own a Baleno, Venue and 3 series. Want to add something fun to drive in the top-spec model within the said budget.

Usually, I don’t have to seek help to decide on a car but now I feel there’s is nothing in the market. Everything I liked will cost me 18 lakhs like Skoda Kushaq, Skoda Slavia. Creta and Seltos DCT models are also around 18 lakhs. If I have to spend 18 then I’d rather spend 20 more and get some premium car but currently I am not trying to spend so much. Just for the commute from grad school to home and a few trips from Delhi to Jammu.

Any help would be appreciated. I put driving dynamics above comfort but would still like the goodies like Carplay etc. also 'am not looking for a pre-worshipped car.

Thank you

You already have a complete garage. A Polo TSI will fulfil your requirement to the T.

It is within your budget and you can use the remaining for service and mods.

Here's what BHPian TorqueMonster had to say on the matter:

At this amount of money, you would not get much to be honest. The Polo is discontinued, so you need to get whatever stock is available with the dealers. The Hyundai i20 N-Line is a decent car, but once again it's a hatchback, and you already have a Baleno. Also, it's not the best driving car, looks are subjective but personally, for me, the car looks ugly, especially the rear.

If you are okay with losing any one of your cars, why not sell either of the Baleno or Venue and buy a competent replacement for any of these cars for around Rs 20 lakhs. If you can't sell any of these 2 and are in need of a 4th car, then buy the i20.

Here's what BHPian chaosengine had to say on the matter:

Since you're saying fun-to-drive, I am more inclined towards a sedan. How about one of the following:

  1. Honda City VX/ZX? Although not particularly exciting to drive, it's still a VTEC, and very comfortable and spacious.
  2. If space in the rear isn't a factor, the Verna SX(O) comes under/around 15L OTR depending on where you live.
  3. Skoda Slavia 1.0 Style comes around 15L OTR as well, if I am not wrong.

Here's what BHPian asit.kulkarni93 had to say on the matter:

You may not like Marutis in general but the S-Cross is an exception. It has a decent ride and is well built. The engine and gearbox combo is best suited for relaxed driving. If you don't want to stretch beyond Rs 15L then you can consider the Kushaq ambition 1.0 TSi AT - VFM product. Without discounts, it should cost slightly above Rs 15L.
